๐Ÿ“ Marlhes, France ยท 1789
ESL Reading โ€” Mission 1
Young Marcellin grew up in the humble village of Marlhes, surrounded by nature. The local school was not a kind place โ€” teachers were harsh. But Marcellin saw beauty in simple things: the mountains, the trees, and the joy of learning together.

Simplicity Badge โ€” The Three Violets ๐ŸŒธ
Why did Marcellin value Simplicity?
St. Marcellin chose the violet as his symbol โ€” a small, humble flower that grows close to the ground. True greatness comes from simplicity, not from pride or show.

โ†Mission 2: The Spark of Compassion
๐Ÿ“ La Valla, France ยท 1816
ESL Story โ€” Mission 2
In 1816, Marcellin met Jean-Baptiste Montagne, a 17-year-old boy who was very sick and had never heard of God's love. Marcellin stayed by his side, day and night.

This encounter changed everything. Marcellin realized that to truly help someone, you must first be present with them โ€” body, heart, and soul. This was the spark that started the Marist Brothers.
"To teach a child, you must love them." โ€” St. Marcellin Champagnat
